Kuantan, Pahang, Malaysia.
Ever heard of it?
I hadn’t – until my wife said she was interested in a meditation seminar being held in the area.
Of course, being a good husband, I looked into how we might facilitate her wish.
Besides, we love tropical Malaysia! We’ve spent eight months of our nearly ten years of early retirement living various places in the nation at different times. The visa policy is generous. The country well-developed, comfortable, and convenient. And much of the friendly population speaks English (a former British colony).
All the better, I quickly discovered Kuantan is on the east coast of mainland Malaysia, bordering the South China Sea. Anyplace on a waterfront is always appealing to me.

Further, a quick search on Airbnb produced a few possible month-long rentals at very reasonable prices. As you see above; $706 for 28-nights works out to $25.23 per night (including taxes and Airbnb fee).
Next thing you know, I’ve made the reservation through Airbnb. And wife Ellen has been accepted to attend the 10-day meditation event.
The video below shows our current home. A 2-bedroom, 2-bath, pool-view condo at the Swiss Garden Resort Residences.

While Ellen is at the meditation retreat, I will share the condo space with my mom, Diane, who is again spending the northern winter months with us.
We haven’t explored Kuantan too much at this point – but we’ll find ways to keep amused and relaxed… and cool. It’s hot here!
Of course, both bedrooms (and the living room) at our place have air conditioning and ceiling fans; a must have when daily temperatures exceed 90 and humidity is high.
Plus there is the huge multi-pool area, a weight/workout room, men’s & women’s saunas, a rooftop lounge, the beach, and restaurants (including Thai… mmmmm) and retail stores all an easy walk away.
Finally, included in the reasonable rent are all utilities, smart TV, fast WiFi, free filtered drinking water, clothes washing machine, and indoor parking space (which we don’t need).
In all, seems like another great Airbnb deal. Another enjoyable and low-cost month. Another fun memory; Kuantan.

As always, be thankful & generous. Happy trails & more beer!
Life is NOW!
