Kortn’s Crib: Airbnb rental in Seoul

Seoul, South Korea; the current stop on the endless Earth Vagabonds world tour.

Seoul is the capital city with a population of more than 10 million people — and loaded with history, culture, nature, and commerce.

South Korea is said to be 70 percent mountainous. And Seoul has numerous mountain peaks in and around the city — more accurately, they are big hills.

Our Airbnb rental

In fact, the Airbnb unit we are renting is near the top of one of the hills. Yep, it’s a strenuous 10-minute walk to get to the place from the subway stop below.

But it also means we have a fantastic view out over the city – and of the nearby park (Naksan Park) where the autumn colors are near their peak.

We’re enjoying our month-long stay at the “Seoul Guest House”. The small, hilltop apartment is in an older residential area and is a pretty good value with the monthly discount, which came to $37 a night. Seoul rents are not cheap. And many more costly Airbnbs are one-room studios without any view or park.

Of course, all utilities, fast WiFi, and smart TV are included in our rent. Heat and AC are available, but we’ve needed neither in October. Our host is a kind Korean family who speak some English. The place is peaceful and quiet too (Seoul can be very noisy/busy).

On the downside, as seen in the video, the bathroom is very small – the kitchen too. Furnishings are adequate, but not especially comfortable. We’ve also dealt with mosquitos during our stay — even with night time temps in the 40s! And again, there is a hill to climb to get to the Seoul Guest House (or use Uber/taxi).

All in all, we’re satisfied with the accommodation. It’s been great for our budget slow travel stay.

As always, be thankful and generous, happy trails & more beer.
