I finally made it to El Fogon in Playa del Carmen last night when I went north to visit friends. The place is said to have the best tacos around. As many times as I’ve been to PDC over the years, I had never gone.
It was a Sunday night still in low season, so there were no lines of people, which made a quick stop there for a bite convenient.
Diners rave about the meat here – but I don’t eat meat. So how would the veggies be served up?
I ordered alambre vegetariano with a little cheese and a diet coke for just under $9. Simple, but definitely very tasty – and yes – the best vegetarian make-em-yourself tacos I’ve had so far around these parts.
Peppers, onions, tomatoes, pineapple, sauce, some cheese (I ordered mine with no mushrooms), tortillas. Hot and delicious. Before the meal, they brought salsas and a small plate of radishes and cucumbers. I much prefer the veggies over greasy deep fried chips.
Have a quick look:
Excellent service, humorous decor, tasty food at a good price. I’ll be back on another trip north from Tulum.
El Fogon is in the central part of PDC, on 30th Avenue at Calle 6 – just a block from Walmart and the city square, and just a few blocks from where I get the colectivo to and from Tulum, at Calle 2 North between 15th and 20th avenues.
Wow! You reached one of the earliest food posts on this site!
