Sargassum & plastic trash report (not in Tulum)

Family and friends are visiting the region, so I spent Nov. 10 north of Tulum, and will be north of Playa del Carmen on Nov. 11.

The sargassum north of Tulum seemed heavy after the recent rain, but it also seems it’s abating. There was heavy plastic trash on the beach, but the beaches I’ve seen are at resorts, so they are continuously cleaned.

Photo taken from beach at the northernmost edge of the massive Bahia Principe complex, on Nov. 10. Workers had just removed large mounds of raked up sargassum. You can see a slight brownish tinge in the water. That is sargassum pulverized into bits.

The regular Tulum report should resume by the end of the day on Nov. 12 or 13.
